Dietary Beta-Hydroxy-Beta-Methyl Butyrate Supplementation Inhibits Hepatic Fat Deposition via Regulating Gut Microbiota in Broiler Chickens

Shiyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different dietary levels of beta-hydroxy-beta-methyl butyrate (HMB) on liver lipid metabolism in Wenshi broiler chickens. The results showed that HMB supplementation reduced liver weight and the concentrations of triacylglycerol (TG) and total cholesterol (TC). It also significantly altered the expression levels of key genes related to lipid metabolism in the liver. Furthermore, HMB supplementation had a significant impact on the composition of the broiler gut microbiota and its correlation with lipid metabolism-related parameters.

Replacement of dietary fish meal with Clostridium autoethanogenum protein on growth performance, digestion, mTOR pathways and muscle quality of abalone Haliotis discus hannai

Zhenhua Wu et al.

Summary: The present study evaluated the replacement of dietary fish meal with Clostridium autoethanogenum protein on abalone. The results showed that complete replacement of fish meal did not significantly affect the growth of abalone. However, replacing 25% of the fish meal with the protein improved growth performance, digestion, and muscle quality in abalone.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of short-term salinity treatment on muscle quality and flavor compounds of freshwater fish. The results showed that salinity treatment at 5 parts per thousand or 7.5 parts per thousand can effectively improve muscle quality and decrease the content of flavor compounds in the fish.

Effects of dietary fishmeal levels on adenosine triphosphate-related compounds and freshness of raw and cooked muscle in large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea

Hua Mu et al.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted to investigate the relationship between ATP-related compounds and freshness of raw and cooked muscle in wild and farmed large yellow croaker. The results showed that wild fish had the highest levels of ATP and related compounds, while fish fed low levels of fish meal in their diet had the lowest levels. The use of low levels of fish meal in the diet decreased the contents of IMP and its precursors, and increased the degradation products of IMP, leading to a decline in umami and freshness.

Dietary Beta-Hydroxy-Beta-Methyl Butyrate Supplementation Affects Growth, Carcass Characteristics, Meat Quality, and Serum Metabolomics Profile in Broiler Chickens

Zhiyi Tang et al.

Summary: The study found that adding HMB to the diet can improve growth performance and muscle quality of broiler chickens. The addition of HMB also resulted in less abdominal fat and higher breast yield in the birds, as well as changes in color and drip loss in selected muscles. Serum metabolome profiling showed differences in lipid and lipid-like molecules, indicating the potential mechanisms behind the observed effects.

HMB Improves Lipid Metabolism of Bama Xiang Mini-Pigs via Modulating the Bacteroidetes-Acetic Acid-AMPKα Axis

Jie Zheng et al.

Summary: The supplementation of HMB reduced the fat percentage in Bama Xiang mini-pigs and increased colonic acetic acid concentration and relative Bacteroidetes abundance. There was a positive correlation between Bacteroidetes abundance and acetic acid production, and a negative correlation between fat percentage and Bacteroidetes abundance or acetic acid production. HMB supplementation also upregulated the phosphorylation of AMPK alpha and downregulated the phosphorylation of mTOR.
