Cloning and characterization of linker histone H1 gene in rohu,Labeo rohita

Sonali Parida et al.

Summary: This study focused on the role of linker histone H1 (LHH1) in the ontogeny and innate immunity of the Indian major carp species rohu. The expression of LHH1 was found to be significantly increased during early development and varied in response to different infection models. However, a synthetic peptide derived from LHH1 did not possess antibacterial activity.

Circulatory physiology and erythropoiesis in freshwater fish Labeo rohita experimentally parasitized by Argulus bengalensis

Netri Datta et al.

Summary: This microcosm study explored the alterations in haematological parameters and erythropoiesis in Labeo rohita following parasitization by Argulus bengalensis, revealing circulatory deterioration, anaemia, variations in erythropoietin levels, and changes in immune activity. The research indicated insufficient erythropoiesis to compensate for blood loss caused by parasitic haematophagy.

Efficacy of emamectin benzoate in controlling natural infestations of ectoparasites in economically important fish species of India

Ramalingam Ananda Raja et al.

Summary: The efficacy of in-feed administration of emamectin benzoate (EMB) was evaluated in commercial fish farms in India. The study showed that EMB treatment effectively controlled parasitic infestation in various fish species and no recurrence was observed for 60 days post medication. Integrated pest management (IPM) program is crucial for the prevention and control of parasitic infestation in commercially important fish cultures.

Primary stress response and biochemical profile of Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822) experimentally parasitized with Argulus bengalensis (Ramakrishna, 1951)

Netri Datta et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the branchiuran parasite Argulosis induces potential stress on host fish, leading to significant biochemical alterations and stress responses in the host's body. The fish exhibit a series of biochemical changes when infected with parasites, mainly influenced by two stress-sensitive hormones: cortisol and epinephrine.

Alteration of gut microbiota composition and function of Indian major carp, rohu (Labeo rohita) infected with Argulus siamensis

Hemanta Kumar Mondal et al.

Summary: The study found that Argulus infection significantly affects the diversity and richness of intestinal microbiota in rohu fish, with an enrichment of Actinobacteria and Patescibacteria. Infected fish showed a higher number of unique genera compared to healthy fish, with significant increases in certain genera like Stenotrophomonas and Pirellula, and a decrease in Reyranella. The composition and function of the gut microbiota were positively associated, and the predicted function in infected fish suggested an enrichment in the synthesis of chitinases, chitin binding proteins, osmoprotectant proteins, and sulfatases enzymes.

Development of Fish Parasite Vaccines in the OMICs Era: Progress and Opportunities

Saloni Shivam et al.

Summary: Parasites are increasingly recognized as catastrophic agents in aquaculture and wild aquatic habitats, leading to significant economic losses. Vaccines are recommended as the most effective solution, but there are limited commercial parasite vaccines available, highlighting the need for more research in vaccine development based on omics technologies.

Immunoproteomic analysis of fish ectoparasite, Argulus siamensis antigens

Priyanka Das et al.

Summary: An immunoproteomic approach was used to identify immunoreactive antigens of the fish ectoparasite, Argulus siamensis. Three proteins identified could serve as potential vaccine candidates against argulosis in carps.
