Pressure- and temperature-initiated adsorption of water vapour in a finned flat-tube adsorber

I. S. Girnik et al.

Summary: Adsorption heat transformation is an effective and environmentally friendly method that utilizes low-temperature heat. This study investigates the dynamics of water adsorption in relation to the initiation pathway and suggests that the specific power of adsorption heat transformers can be improved by optimizing the working cycle.

Experimental Investigation of the Adsorption and Desorption Kinetics on an Open-Structured Asymmetric Plate Heat Exchanger; Matching Between Small-Scale and Full-Scale Results

Makram Mikhaeil et al.

Summary: This paper presents the findings of an experimental study on the adsorption and desorption kinetics of an open-structured asymmetric plate heat exchanger used as an adsorber/desorber for adsorption heat transformation processes. The kinetic results of the small-scale adsorbent sample and the plate heat exchanger were fitted into exponential forms with high coefficients of determination. The study found a good match between the small-scale and full-scale adsorption kinetics, and utilized the kinetic data to estimate the power of the heat exchanger.

Numerical analysis of heat pipe-assisted finned adsorber with FAM-Z02/ water pair for vehicle air conditioning

Xiangshan Gai et al.

Summary: This study investigates a heat pipe-assisted finned adsorber unit tube (AUT) for a vehicle adsorption cooling system (ACS). A numerical model combined with experimentally validated heat pipe model and adsorption isotherm model is developed to analyze the adsorption/desorption characteristics of the system. Specific cooling power (SCP), coefficient of performance (COP), and adsorber bed to adsorbent mass ratio (AAMR) are quantified to evaluate the cooling capacity and system performance. The results show that the heat pipe significantly improves the SCP and COP of the adsorber. Smaller adsorbent particle size and larger cyclic water uptake lead to better system performance. The heat pipe-assisted finned adsorber offers a viable solution for onboard ACS.

Optimized sorber bed heat and mass exchangers for sorption cooling systems

Hesam Bahrehmand et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates improved thermal diffusivity in sorption systems by adding graphite flakes to the sorbent and optimizing sorber beds. Analyzing all components of the sorber bed simultaneously is shown to be crucial for optimization, along with optimizing specific cooling power and coefficient of performance concurrently due to conflicting trends. Optimization results in the development of new sorber bed designs achieving higher performance compared to off-the-shelf heat exchangers.

Optimisation of Operation of Adsorption Chiller with Desalination Function

Karol Sztekler

Summary: The growing demand for electricity, driven by economic development and increasing population, has negative impacts on the environment. The use of adsorption chillers can provide eco-friendly cooling, improve energy efficiency, and result in additional financial benefits. However, adsorption chillers have low coefficients of performance and require further improvement.

Hybrid sorption-vapor compression cooling systems: A comprehensive overview

Mohamed G. Gado et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the integration of absorption, adsorption and desiccant cooling technologies into vapor compression systems, studying different configurations based on energetic, exergetic, economic and environmental analysis. The hybrid systems show potential for reducing electricity consumption and enhancing performance by lowering condensation temperatures. Results indicate that oversized adsorption cooling systems can improve performance, while downscaled ones may worsen it. The integration of vapor compression with solid and liquid desiccant cycles can operate efficiently at lower regeneration temperatures, with integrated liquid desiccant-vapor compression systems providing cooling below dew point with energy provision.
