Effects of two-phase expander on the thermoeconomics of organic double-flash cycles for geothermal power generation

Dongyu Meng et al.

Summary: This study compares the thermoeconomics of three different cycle forms (RODFC, EODFC, and DEODFC), with results showing that DEODFC generates the maximum net power and effectively reduces exergy losses. Although the two-phase expanders increase energy losses during power generation, the overall exergy efficiency is improved.

Strategic integration of single flash geothermal steam cycle (SFGSC) and ejector assisted dual-evaporator organic flash refrigeration cycle (EADEOFRC) for power and multi-temperature cooling: 2nd law performance study

Subha Mondal et al.

Summary: In this study, an ejector-assisted dual-evaporator organic flash refrigeration cycle is integrated with a single flash geothermal steam cycle. The integrated cycle shows higher second law efficiency compared to the single flash geothermal steam cycle, but lower than a dual flash steam cycle. When components are removed, the organic flash refrigeration cycle only produces power output, while the integrated single flash geothermal steam cycle and organic flash refrigeration cycle yield higher efficiency than the dual flash steam cycle. Using n-pentane as the working fluid instead of isopentane slightly improves the performance of the combined cycle.

An idea to efficiently recover the waste heat of Data Centers by constructing an integrated system with carbon dioxide heat pump, mechanical subcooling cycle and lithium bromide-water absorption refrigeration cycle

Xinxing Lin et al.

Summary: By integrating carbon dioxide heat pump, mechanical subcooling cycle, and lithium bromide-water absorption refrigeration cycle, the waste heat from Data Centers can be effectively utilized for cooling surrounding office buildings in summer and providing heating in winter. Through experimental comparison, it was found that the optimal mixture is R600a/R601a (0.4/0.6), but for security reasons, R600a/R134a (0.5/0.5) is more recommended.

Narayanan Shankar Ganesh et al.

Summary: The cogeneration system utilizing waste heat recovery has gained significant research interest in recent years. This study focuses on the design and performance investigation of low temperature and medium temperature heat recovery based cogeneration systems. The results show that the combined ORC-based power and cooling/refrigeration systems achieve maximum combined energy and exergy efficiencies of 47.3% and 59.16% respectively. The Kalina cycle (KC)-based cogeneration system achieves optimum energy and exergy efficiency values of 42% and 47%. Further research is needed to examine advanced exergy analysis on combined power and cooling systems and investigate cogeneration outputs in combination with desalination/hydrogen systems.
