Highly Efficient Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol Catalyzed by Pt Supported on Bi-Metallic MIL-100 (Fe, Mn/Co) MOFs Derivates Prepared by Hydrothermal Polyol Reduction Method

Wang Sun et al.

Summary: The Pt/(Fe, Mn/Co)-BTC catalysts exhibited excellent performance in selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol, with Pt/(Fe, Co)-BTC showing higher turnover frequency and better cycle stability attributed to the highly dispersed small Pt nanoparticles present on the catalysts.

Effect of Pt Particle Size and Phosphorous Addition on Furfural Hydrogenation Over Pt/Al2O3

Miren Agote-Aran et al.

Summary: Pt/Al2O3 catalysts with different Pt particle sizes were studied for furfural hydrogenation. Large Pt particles showed higher turnover frequency but decreased overall activity due to loss of surface Pt. Phosphorous addition could act as promoter in some cases but led to catalyst poisoning in Pt/Al2O3. Gradual deactivation of Pt/Al2O3 over consecutive cycles was caused by Pt sintering and irreversible adsorption of organic intermediates.

Deposition of Pt clusters onto MOFs-derived CeO2 by ALD for selective hydrogenation of furfural

Qiuping Yang et al.

Summary: “The selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol has attracted extensive attention, but designing and preparing efficient catalysts with high selectivity remains challenging due to the presence of conjugated C-O and C-C groups in furfural. In this study, small-sized Pt nanoclusters were loaded onto MOFs-derived CeO2 using atomic layer deposition. The Pt/M-CeO2 catalyst exhibited superior catalytic activity and selectivity compared to Pt/commercial CeO2, achieving 100% conversion of furfural with 98% selectivity to furfuryl alcohol. The excellent catalytic performance of Pt/M-CeO2 can be attributed to the clean surface of Pt clusters, strong interaction between Pt and M-CeO2, and the rich oxygen vacancy/porous structure of the M-CeO2 support. This work highlights an effective approach for depositing noble metal clusters onto MOFs-derived metal oxides, providing an alternative strategy for the rational design of highly efficient catalysts in selective hydrogenation reactions.”

Selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol in water under mild conditions over a hydrotalcite-derived Pt-based catalyst

Ge Gao et al.

Summary: A novel hydrotalcite-derived Pt-based catalyst was synthesized for selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. The catalyst's structure facilitated high dispersion and effective reduction of Pt species, and enabled selective adsorption of the aldehyde group of furfural and rapid desorption of the produced furfuryl alcohol, ensuring high selectivity and stability.

Highly flame-retardant epoxy-based thermal conductive composites with functionalized boron nitride nanosheets exfoliated by one-step ball milling

Gaojie Han et al.

Summary: In this study, hexagonal boron nitride was exfoliated and flame-retardant functionalized in one step via ball milling, leading to the development of highly flame-retardant and thermally conductive composite materials. The obtained BNNS were used as multifunctional additives in epoxy resin composites, showing significant improvements in flame retardancy and thermal conductivity.

Low-Temperature Synthesis of Single Palladium Atoms Supported on Defective Hexagonal Boron Nitride Nanosheet for Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Cinnamaldehyde

Zhijun Li et al.

Summary: Metal-support interactions are crucial in determining support-activity in heterogeneous catalysis. A low-temperature synthetic strategy to anchor atomically dispersed palladium atoms on defective h-BN nanosheet was reported. The catalyst demonstrated exceptional efficiency in chemoselective hydrogenation, along with excellent recyclability, sintering-resistant ability, and scalability. The synthetic approach is expected to enable large-scale production of bench-stable catalysts with maximum atom efficiency for industrial applications.

Effect of carboxylate stabilizers on the performance of Pt/C catalysts for furfural hydrogenation

Mi Yeon Byun et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of stabilizers in the preparation and performance of Pt/C catalysts. The dispersion of Pt/C catalysts is influenced by the type and carbon chain length of stabilizers. In the furfural hydrogenation reaction, catalysts with higher Pt dispersion exhibit higher reactivity and selectivity.

Platinum and cobalt intermetallic nanoparticles confined within MIL-101(Cr) for enhanced selective hydrogenation of the carbonyl bond in α,β-unsaturated aldehydes: synergistic effects of electronically modified Pt sites and Lewis acid sites

Muhammad Zahid et al.

Summary: The study developed a catalyst consisting of Pt-Co intermetallic nanoparticles supported on a MIL-101(Cr) MOF, which showed improved selectivity towards α,β-unsaturated alcohols. The addition of Co to the catalyst promoted Lewis acid sites, facilitating the hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and enhancing selectivity. The Pt-Co intermetallic nanoparticles played a key role in enhancing the activity and selectivity of the catalyst towards unsaturated alcohols.
