A quantitative analysis of hydroxyl radical generation as H2O2 encounters siderite: Kinetics and effect of parameters

Fuwei Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that under different solution chemistry conditions, siderite can activate H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals for the degradation of typical micropollutants. The dosage of siderite and H2O2 concentration can affect the generation of hydroxyl radicals, while the presence of different anions and metal ions also has an impact on the reaction.

Advanced Electrochemical Oxidation Processes in the Treatment of Pharmaceutical Containing Water and Wastewater: a Review

Salatiel Wohlmuth da Silva et al.

Summary: This review addresses the recent developments and challenges of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) for market development of EAO technology. The presence of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC), especially pharmaceutical compounds, has become a global environmental issue due to their resistance to conventional treatment processes. The development of EAOPs has grown due to their compact, scalable, automatable, and chemical-free nature, but challenges remain in treating complex water matrices, multi-contaminants, lower concentrations, energy consumption, fouling, and scaling. Further research and development efforts are needed to improve process performance and scale up EAOPs.
