Miscibility of isotactic poly(1-butene)/isotactic polypropylene blends studied by atomic force Microscopy-Infrared

Jiugeng Cheng et al.

Summary: This work investigates the miscibility behavior of high molecular weight isotactic poly(1-butene) and isotactic polypropylene blends using AFM-IR technique. It is found that the two polymers partially miscible under certain conditions, and the content of polypropylene in each phase can be determined using a quantitative analysis method. The phase separation kinetics and phase diagram of the blends were studied, suggesting a lower critical solution temperature-type phase behavior of PB/PP blends.

Analysis of the Chemical Distribution of Self-Assembled Microdomains with the Selective Localization of Amine- Functionalized Graphene Nanoplatelets by Optical Photothermal Infrared Microspectroscopy

Suihua He et al.

Summary: By incorporating 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine (AEPIP) into a commercial epoxy blend, selective localization of amine-functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (A-GNPs) was achieved, resulting in a bicontinuous microstructure. Spectral imaging techniques and optical photothermal infrared (O-PTIR) spectroscopy were used to study the morphology and structure of the cured blend.

Thermal and electrical conductivity of a graphene-based hybrid filler epoxy composite

A. Nouri-Borujerdi et al.

Summary: The study successfully enhanced the thermal conductivity of epoxy composites by using a hybrid filler of graphene nanoplatelets and boron nitride microparticles, with the addition of microparticles showing better results than nanoscale particles. The thermal conductivity of the composites changed significantly with increasing microparticle loading at a fixed graphene nanoplatelet loading.

Polymerization-Induced Phase Separation in Rubber-Toughened Amine-Cured Epoxy Resins: Tuning Morphology from the Nano- to Macro-scale

Samuel C. Leguizamon et al.

Summary: Polymerization-induced phase separation allows for precise control over thermoset network morphologies, resulting in heterogeneous structures with tunable domain sizes ranging from 1-100 nm. By adjusting the composition of a binary curing agent mixture in a rubber-toughened epoxy thermoset, morphology can be easily controlled through a single compositional parameter, leading to a wide range of morphologies controlled by the reactivities and compatibility of network components. This method also demonstrates a strong relationship between chain dynamics and microstructure, with the tunable morphology allowing for variations in glass transition temperature and mechanical properties such as elongation at failure, modulus, and ultimate strength that were previously unattainable.

Reaction-Induced Phase Separation and Morphology Evolution of Benzoxazine/Epoxy/Imidazole Ternary Blends

Jun Yue et al.

Summary: Introducing a low reactive phenol-3,3-diethyl-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane based benzoxazine monomer amplified the difference in polymerization activity between benzoxazine and epoxy resin, leading to improved phase separation and phase contrast. The morphology of the phases varied with the content of epoxy resin, and the polymerization of epoxy resin drove the phase separation and influenced the phase morphologies.
