Single-step fabrication of highly stable amorphous TiO2 nanotubes arrays (am-TNTA) for stimulating gas-phase photoreduction of CO2 to methane

Janaina S. Santos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the facile fabrication of interfacial defects assisted amorphous TiO2 nanotubes arrays for promoting gas-phase CO2 photoreduction to methane. The am-TNTA catalyst demonstrated high chemical stability, a large exposed surface area, and a significant number of surface traps that can reduce the recombination of charge carriers. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of am-TNTA can be attributed to its amorphous structure with surface defects, particularly OH groups acting as electron traps to increase electron lifetime, facilitating CO2 conversion to methane.

Interfacial coupling effects on adsorptive and photocatalytic performances for photoresponsive graphene-wrapped SrTiO3@Ag under UV-visible light: experimental and DFT approach

Mohamed Khalil Guediri et al.

Summary: Understanding the interactions between graphene/semiconductor/metal is crucial for designing efficient photocatalytic materials. In this study, SrTiO3 on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was successfully synthesized and decorated with silver particles. The resulting composites showed improved photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of methylene blue (MB), and various characterization techniques were used to analyze their properties. First-principle density functional theory calculations were also carried out to verify the results. The SrTiO3/rGO@Ag composites exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic performances compared to pristine SrTiO3.

Toward the understanding of surface phenomena involved in the photocatalytic performance of amorphous TiO2/SiO2 catalyst - A theoretical and experimental study

C. V. Paz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of a photocatalytic CO2 reduction using an amorphous-TiO2 modified with silica (SiO2) catalyst. The analysis showed that surfaces with superficial SiO2 groups are more affine to some target molecules, promoting faster adsorption and reaction, but contributing to obstruction in the mechanizing reaction. Additionally, the presence of second-order links between affine target molecules and catalytic surfaces can lead to molecular blocking and catalyst deactivation, ultimately affecting the production of CO.

Effects of transition metal Ti and its compounds on hydrogen adsorption performance of Mg17Al12

Hua Ning et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory, it was found that Ti-containing clusters can effectively enhance the adsorption energy and dissociation barrier of hydrogen on the Mg17Al12 surface, promoting hydrogenation reactions. Additionally, H2 molecules can spontaneously dissociate into H atoms on certain Ti-containing surfaces.

Density functional theory calculations of copper-doped rutile crystals: Local structural, electronic, optical, and electron paramagnetic resonance properties

Xing-Yuan Yu et al.

Summary: The study used density functional theory calculations to investigate the local structural, electronic, optical, and electron paramagnetic resonance properties of Cu2+-doped rutile crystals. The results showed that Cu2+ doping caused a significant redshift of the UV-Vis absorption band, narrowing of the band gap, and enhancement of visible light activity in the material. The systematic studies provided insights into the mechanisms underlying the enhancement of optical and magnetic properties with transition-metal dopants, particularly Cu2+.

Summary: In this study, SiO2 nanoparticle-decorated TiO2 (SiO2/TiO2) nanocomposites modified with silane coupling agents were synthesized to improve the inkjet printing performance. The results showed that SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites with a molar ratio of Na2SiO3 to TiO2 of 0.06:1 exhibited the best dispersibility and opacity performance. The KH570-SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites showed greatly improved properties of the curing film, including opacity performance, tensile properties, thermal stability, and color fastness.

Atomistic Insights into Lithium Storage Mechanisms in Anatase, Rutile, and Amorphous TiO2 Electrodes

Jodie A. Yuwono et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations were used to study phase transformations, Li+ diffusion, and charge-transfer reactions in LixTiO2. It was found that in amorphous TiO2, the energy barrier for Li+ diffusion decreases with increasing Li+ fraction, with longer Li-Ti and Li-O interactions having lower insertion energies and higher migration barriers. Amorphous TiO2 exhibits both surface and bulk storage mechanisms due to its disordered atomic arrangement and increased Li+ diffusivity at higher fractions.

Influence of selected reactive oxygen species on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 composite coatings processed at low temperature

Alejandra Romero-Moran et al.

Summary: The study established the influence of the crystalline phase and agglomeration degree of TiO2 nanoparticles on photocatalytic hydroxyl radical formation and bacterial inactivation in TiO2/SiO2 composite coatings. A relationship between hydroxyl radicals' formation and charge carrier transfer mechanism between defect levels in SiO2 and TiO2 embedded nanoparticles was established through a simple spectroscopic method. This correlation complements the lack of mechanisms behind the photocatalytic activity in TiO2/SiO2 composites.
