MFC-driven H2S electro-oxidation based on Fe nanoparticles anchored on carbon aerogel-ZIF-8: a combined experimental and DFT study

Daryoush Sanaei et al.

Summary: This study introduces an effective strategy to improve the crystalline structure and enhance the porosity/surface area of ZIF-8 by inducing the growth of carbon aerogel-ZIF-8 on a mixed-metal metal-organic framework template. The Fe-doped CA-ZIF-8@MM-MOF exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity in the removal of H2S compared to a pristine carbon cloth electrode. The Fe-N-4 active centers are found to favor the adsorption and association/dissociation of H2S, while the M-Fe-M (C) centers are optimal for strengthening the bonding between Fe nanoparticles and the support.

Efficiently Integrated Desulfurization from Natural Gas over Zn-ZIF-Derived Hierarchical Lamellar Carbon Frameworks

Guanqing Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen-functionalized, hierarchically lamellar carbon frameworks (N-HLCF-xs) were developed as efficient desulfurizers for selective removal of COS and H2S from natural gas. The N-HLCF-xs possess large surface areas, combined primary and secondary porosity, and high density of nitrogen base sites. The desulfurization performance of N-HLCF-xs was superior to other commonly used desulfurizers.

D. E. Djafri et al.

Summary: This work presents the electrochemical synthesis of Ni(OH)2 nanoflake films on ITO substrates for electrochromic devices. The study investigates the effect of H2O2 concentration on the electrochemical deposition and finds that 60 mM H2O2 achieves a high optical contrast and coloration efficiency for the Ni(OH)2 film. The results demonstrate that this method provides a low-cost and practical approach for developing high-performance electrochromic devices.

Nickel-Catalyzed mesoporous biochar for enhanced adsorptive oxidation of aqueous Sulfide: An investigation of influencing factors and mechanisms

Umar Abdulbaki Danhassan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that nickel-modified biochar has a significantly faster adsorption rate for sulfide ions than regular biochar, with a 2.72-fold increase in adsorption capacity. The increased adsorption is attributed to the addition of mesopores in the modified biochar. The study also reveals the mechanisms of sulfide adsorption and oxidation. This research has implications for biomass valorization and desulfurization.

Efficient catalytic removal of COS and H2S over graphitized 2D micro-meso-macroporous carbons endowed with ample nitrogen sites synthesized via mechanochemical carbonization

Xun Kan et al.

Summary: Developing a catalyst for the elimination of highly toxic carbonyl sulfide (COS) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is crucial for industrial safety and environmental protection. Researchers have synthesized graphitized 2D micro-meso-macroporous carbons as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of COS to H2S and subsequent conversion of H2S to elemental sulfur. The catalysts exhibit high activity, durability, and selectivity, surpassing most reported carbon-based catalysts.

Electrodeposition, formation mechanism, and electrocatalytic performance of Co-Ni-P ternary catalysts coated on carbon fiber paper

Aiqin Zhang et al.

Summary: A flexible electrode composed of Co-Ni-P ternary catalysts and carbon fiber paper substrate was successfully fabricated and exhibited superior catalytic performance for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions in alkaline media. This electrode could achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm(2) with overpotentials of 89 mV for HER and 320 mV for OER, showing great potential for water electrolysis applications. The electrode could also be used as both anode and cathode electrode to drive overall water splitting, requiring only 1.64 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm(2), which is close to the performance of commercial Pt/C and IrO2 combinations.

The effect of P vacancies on the activity of cobalt phosphide nanorods as oxygen evolution electrocatalyst in alkali

Guojun Yuan et al.

Summary: Anion defects are used to regulate active sites in electrocatalysis, with a study showing that phosphate formation by filling phosphorus vacancies is crucial for catalyst activity. CoP with appropriate phosphorus vacancies demonstrates excellent oxygen evolution reaction performance, while excessive vacancies hinder catalytic activity by affecting active center production. This research provides valuable insights for designing OER catalysts with anion vacancy defects.

Electrochemical mitigation of hydrogen sulfide in deep-pit swine manure storage

Lingkan Ding et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of electrochemical control of hydrogen sulfide in lab-scale swine manure storage using different electrode materials and conducted a pilot-scale field test in a 200-head swine barn. The results showed that low carbon steel (LCS) and stainless steel 304 (SS304) were effective in removing H2S and were selected for the pilot-scale test. The pilot-scale demonstration showed H2S removal efficiencies of 84.0% and 63.5% for LCS and SS304, respectively. Installation and operation of the electrochemical system accounted for 16% of barn construction cost using LCS as electrodes, indicating room for further optimization to reduce material consumption and overall cost.
