Lindane removal in contaminated soil by defined microbial consortia and evaluation of its effectiveness by bioassays and cytotoxicity studies

Banishree Sahoo et al.

Summary: In this study, a bacterial consortium consisting of lindane-degrading bacteria and plant growth-promoting bacteria was used for the bioremediation of lindane-contaminated soil. The consortium was able to degrade around 80% of the lindane in the soil and showed lower toxicity to plants and human cells.

Bioremediation of a trifluralin contaminated soil using bioaugmentation with novel isolated bacterial strains and cyclodextrin

A. Lara-Moreno et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of microbial consortia and bacterial strains isolated from a soil with a history of pesticide application to degrade Trifluralin (TFL) in soil. Different bioremediation techniques, including biostimulation, bioaugmentation, and bioavailability enhancement, were considered to increase the effectiveness of TFL degradation. The results showed that the efficiency of TFL degradation varied among different techniques and bacterial strains. The most efficient strain was identified as Arthrobacter aurescens CTFL7, and the addition of a biodegradable compound, randomly methylated cyclodextrin (RAMEB), further enhanced TFL biodegradation.

Modified zeolite-supported biofilm in service of pesticide biodegradation

Nataliia Gorodylova et al.

Summary: The study on biofilms developed on modified natural zeolites revealed that the modifications can significantly affect the biodegradation rate of pesticides MCPA and glyphosate, reaching a maximum rate of 0.12-0.13 mg/h, much faster than observed in the natural environment. However, in some cases, biodegradation activity can be lost, which is connected to unfavorable zeolite modification and accumulation of toxic metabolites.
