Pinpointing photothermal contributions in photochemical reactions on plasmonic gold nanoparticles

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: The dimerization of PNTP to DMAB is possibly driven directly by the laser heating effect. In plasmonic photocatalysis, the conversion rate and reaction rate are highly dependent on the size of the gold nanoparticles. The reaction is not only driven by hot electron transfer, but also to a large extent by photothermal conversion. This extraordinary evidence sheds new light on the puzzle of plasmonic photochemical reactions.

Computational and experimental insights into reactive forms of oxygen species on dynamic Ag surfaces under ethylene epoxidation conditions

Changming Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the surface structure of the catalyst and the molecular structure of the reactive oxygen species during the catalytic production of ethylene oxide are elucidated. The results suggest that reconstructed surface oxides are formed and encase metallic Ag particles during the catalytic reaction.

Molecular-Level Insights on Reactive Arrangement in On-Surface Photocatalytic Coupling Reactions Using Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Zhen-Feng Cai et al.

Summary: Plasmon-enhanced photocatalytic coupling reactions have been studied using a combination of nanoscale TERS imaging, molecular-resolution ambient STM, and DFT modeling. The research reveals that the kinetically driven disordered phase exhibits higher catalytic efficiency compared to the thermodynamically stable ordered phase. Molecular details obtained from STM imaging and quantitative mechanistic insights from DFT modeling confirm the critical role of reactive arrangement in the efficiency of on-surface coupling reactions.

Plasmon and Plexciton Driven Interfacial Catalytic Reactions

Rui Yang et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the summary of catalytic reactions driven by surface plasmons and plexciton, demonstrating the promotion effect of coupling interaction in oxidation and reduction reactions. The coupling effect of plasmons and excitons successfully improves the efficiency of catalytic reactions. It also presents the research progress in electrooptical synergic plasmon-exciton co-driven surface catalytic reactions.

Raman Detection of Bond Breaking and Making of a Chemisorbed Up-Standing Single Molecule at Single-Bond Level

Rui-Pu Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, we demonstrated real-time tracking of bond breaking and making processes of an up-standing melamine molecule chemisorbed on Cu(100) using subnanometer resolved tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS). The results indicate the chemical and structural sensitivity of TERS for single-molecule recognition beyond flat-lying planar molecules.

Molecular-Scale Chemical Imaging of the Orientation of an On-Surface Coordination Complex by Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Zhen-Feng Cai et al.

Summary: Metal-organic coordination structures at interfaces are crucial in biological and chemical systems. Understanding the molecular specificity, orientation, and spatial distribution of coordination complexes at the nanometer scale is essential for effective molecular engineering of nanostructures and fabrication of functional devices with controllable properties. Using tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, cobalt(II) tetraphenyl-porphyrin coordination species on a single molecule scale can be investigated, providing insights into adsorption configuration and molecular orientation.
