New Approach to Antifungal Activity of Fluconazole Incorporated into the Porous 6-Anhydro-α-l-Galacto-β-d-Galactan Structures Modified with Nanohydroxyapatite for Chronic-Wound Treatments-In Vitro Evaluation

Summary: New fluconazole-loaded hydrogels incorporating nanohydroxyapatite were prepared and characterized using XRD, SEM-EDS, and ATR-FTIR. The antifungal activity of fluconazole was tested against various Candida, Cryptococcus, and Rhodotorula species. The hydrogels were found to be excellent drug carriers and effective in preventing fungal infections in chronic wounds.

The In Vitro Anti-Pseudomonal Activity of Cu2+, Strawberry Furanone, Gentamicin, and Lytic Phages Alone and in Combination: Pros and Cons

Summary: This study found that HDMF exhibited anti-virulent effects only when used in combination with Cu2+ or GE. GE at sub-minimal inhibitory concentration slowed down phage progeny production, while Cu2+ significantly reduced both bacterial cell count and infective phage particles likely due to genotoxicity or protein inactivation effects. The combination of GE and Cu2+ showed an additive antibacterial effect possibly through enhanced ROS production or outer membrane permeabilization.
