Study on the characteristics and mechanism of DL-malic acid in inhibiting spontaneous combustion of lignite and bituminous coal

Wei Lu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that DL-malic acid can significantly inhibit coal spontaneous combustion, reducing CO concentrations, increasing crossing-point temperatures, and improving thermal stability. Water-soaked coal samples showed better inhibition of CSC by malic acid compared to unsoaked samples. The malic acid solution effectively weakens the catalytic effect of metal ions in coal, inhibiting the generation of free radicals and thereby inhibiting CSC.

Enhanced l-Malic Acid Production by Aspergillus oryzae DSM 1863 Using Repeated-Batch Cultivation

Vanessa Schmitt et al.

Summary: This study investigates the production potential of l-malic acid by the wild-type strain Aspergillus oryzae DSM 1863. Through a comparison of different process strategies, it identifies repeated-batch cultivation with product removal as the most effective method for sustained malic acid production. Additionally, the study highlights the positive effects of regular calcium carbonate additions and nitrogen supplementation on pH stability and malic acid synthesis.

Valorization of a Pyrolytic Aqueous Condensate and Its Main Components for L-Malic Acid Production with Aspergillus oryzae DSM 1863

Christin Kubisch et al.

Summary: Pyrolytic aqueous condensate (PAC) is a cost-effective substrate for microbial malic acid production. Shake flask cultures showed that the filamentous fungus Aspergillus oryzae can utilize acetol and acetate for growth and L-malate production. pH adjustment can significantly increase malate production. The results were successfully scaled up to 0.5-L bioreactors, achieving comparable yields and productivities.
