Scattering of flexural-gravity waves due to a crack in a floating ice sheet in a two-layer fluid in the context of blocking dynamics

S. C. Barman et al.

Summary: The influence of wave blocking on the scattering of a flexural-gravity wave by a linear crack in a thin ice cover resting over a two-layer ocean is investigated. The results reveal the existence of multiple propagating wave modes within the blocking frequencies, and the appropriate transition of wave modes within the blocking frequencies is obtained with the help of the dispersion curve. The study also shows the effects of lateral compressive force and density ratio on the scattering process. The occurrence of removable and jump discontinuities in the reflection and transmission coefficients at certain frequencies is revealed.

Scattering of oblique waves by a semi-infinite floating elastic plate within the framework of wave blocking

P. Negi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the scattering of obliquely incident surface waves by a semi-infinite floating elastic plate in the presence of lateral compressive force within the framework of blocking dynamics in time-space. It is found that primary and secondary wave blocking occur for two different values of time-period, and three propagating wave modes coalesce at a saddle point for a particular value of compressive force.

Surface gravity wave interaction with a partial porous breakwater in a two-layer ocean having bottom undulations

R. B. Kaligatla et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the scattering of linear surface gravity waves by partial porous breakwaters in a two-layer ocean with undulating bottom interface. Through analyzing different scenarios, the research reveals varying effects of porous breakwaters on wave transmission and dissipation, depending on the conditions.

The role of viscoelastic foundation on flexural gravity wave blocking in shallow water

S. Boral et al.

Summary: A hydroelastic model has been developed to study the interaction between linear long gravity waves and a large floating flexible plate on a viscoelastic foundation. The study reveals flexural gravity wave blocking, mode swapping, and the presence of different propagating modes under specific conditions of compressive force and elastic foundation constant. Additionally, complex wave modes are observed in the presence of a viscoelastic foundation, showcasing a shift in blocking/buckling points and varying behavior of phase and group velocities with the introduction of viscous damping.
