The thermal runaway analysis on LiFePO4 electrical energy storage packs with different venting areas and void volumes

Peng Qin et al.

Summary: This study compares the thermal runaway behaviors of two different structures of lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs and proposes a new experimental method to investigate the characteristics of venting gas. The results indicate that a large venting area and sufficient void volume can ensure the safety of the battery pack. The venting gas is mainly composed of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, and the high concentrations of hydrogen and ethylene may be the main cause of fire explosions.

Summary: This study focused on experimental measurements and development of a chemical kinetic model for JP-10 combustion. The model consisting of 189 species and 1287 reactions was validated using laminar flame speeds and literature data. Results showed that decomposition pathways of JP-10 mainly generate small molecules, cyclic C-5 alkenes, and aromatics, with different effects on global reaction rates.

Influence research of electrostatic environment on dispersion and explosion characteristics of typical biomass organic dust clouds

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The impact of electrostatic field on the dispersion effect and explosion hazard of biomass dust clouds was studied through experiments and simulations. The results showed that the electrostatic field increased the peak explosion overpressure and the rate of explosion overpressure rise of dust when the dust concentration was low. Compared to the absence of electrostatic field, the maximum explosion overpressure of three typical organic dusts increased.

Calculation model for drag coefficient and multi-phase flow characteristics in dust removal process: Comparison between flake aluminum powder and spherical aluminum powder

Qi Jing et al.

Summary: Studying the force model of flake and spherical particles in a two-phase flow system is of great significance for reducing dust hazards. A new CFD method is used to determine the correspondence between drag coefficient and Reynolds number for spherical particles. The stress states of flake particles are summarized into different models, and the equivalent drag coefficient and Reynolds number relationship is obtained. Experimental and numerical simulation results show that flake powder has a more obvious size effect and better fluidity compared to spherical powder, making it easier to remove from the production workshop.

Deflagration evolution characteristic and chemical reaction kinetic mechanism of JP-10/DEE mixed fuel in a large-scale tube

Qi Jing et al.

Summary: In this study, the deflagration propagation characteristics of JP-10/DEE mixtures were investigated through experiments. It was found that DEE can compensate for the ignition difficulty and incomplete combustion of JP-10, and has a synergistic enhancement effect. The results showed that with the increase of DEE concentration, the propagation speed of the primary flame increased, the induction time of the secondary flame was advanced, and the maximum deflagration intensity occurred at a fuel ratio of 0.6.

On the explosion characteristics for central and end-wall ignition in hydrogen-air mixtures: A comparative study

Tingkai Dai et al.

Summary: The experimental results demonstrate that central ignition is generally more hazardous than end-wall ignition, especially under quiescent conditions and lower initial pressure. Central ignition results in small energy loss and behaves similarly to an ideal constant volume explosion, while end-wall ignition consumes a large amount of explosive energy. Under turbulent conditions, the increase in jet pressure and jet time intensifies the explosion hazard of central ignition but restricts the explosion process of end-wall ignition.
