Experimental study on mechanical properties and microstructure of metakaolin based geopolymer stabilized silty clay

Yiping Luo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of geopolymer in improving the silty clay soil by enhancing its strength, stability, and microstructure. MKG has shown significant improvement in the mechanical properties of soil, with higher performance compared to lime and ordinary Portland cement stabilization. The formation of cementitious materials and denser microstructure in soil stabilized by MKG were confirmed by SEM observation and EDS analysis.

Sustainable use of red mud in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC): Design and performance evaluation

Dongshuai Hou et al.

Summary: This paper explores the use of red mud as a mineral additive in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Results show that adding red mud can enhance the early-age durability of UHPC, but reduce workability and mechanical properties. Applications in complex-shaped buildings may be affected, but still feasible for general construction.

A combined calcination method for activating mixed shale residue and red mud for preparation of geopolymer

Shenxu Bao et al.

Summary: The compressive strength of geopolymers prepared through combined calcination was higher than that of samples prepared through separate calcination, due to more silicon and aluminum substances being dissolved and enhancing the polymerization of calcium with active silicon and aluminum. Therefore, high alkaline-containing RM can effectively boost the reactivity of SR for geopolymer preparation.
