Rongdi Tang et al.

Summary: The novel pi-pi stacked PDI/g-C3N4/TiO2@Ti3C2 photocatalyst with S-scheme heterojunction effectively boosted the degradation of atrazine by activating peroxymonosulfate. The synergy of pi-pi interaction and S-scheme heterojunction promoted the removal of ATZ to 75% within one hour, and further investigation on reaction mechanisms and product transformation was conducted, resulting in a mineralization rate of 46.08% for ATZ.

Insight into the role of charge carrier mediation zone for singlet oxygen production over rod-shape graphitic carbon nitride: Batch and continuous-flow reactor

Hyeseong Kim et al.

Summary: By synthesizing rod-type graphitic carbon nitride (NCN), a highly selective production of singlet oxygen can be achieved compared to bulk graphitic carbon nitride (BCN). NCN exhibits higher surface area and surface oxygen adsorption ability, resulting in increased production of O-1(2) under photo-excitation, along with higher recombination efficiency and longer e(-) decay time, showing superior performance in ATZ removal.

Unique g-C3N4/PDI-g-C3N4 homojunction with synergistic piezo-photocatalytic effect for aquatic contaminant control and H2O2 generation under visible light

Rongdi Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, a g-C3N4/PDI-g-C3N4 homojunction was fabricated for piezo-photocatalytic atrazine removal, demonstrating superior performance compared to individual photocatalysis or piezocatalysis. The introduction of PDI facilitated electron migration and enhanced piezoelectricity, with the homojunction promoting photoelectron transfer. The porous structure of the g-C3N4/PDI-g-C3N4 was found to be essential for the enhanced piezoelectricity, leading to a high atrazine degradation rate and H2O2 production during the piezo-photocatalytic process.

Nitrogen-defect induced trap states steering electron-hole migration in graphite carbon nitride

Wenlu Li et al.

Summary: Defect structures of semiconductors play a crucial role in regulating trap states, excitons, and active charge carriers in artificial photosynthesis systems. By preparing a g-C3N4 system with abundant nitrogen defects, researchers discovered a 20-fold increase in H-2 evolution efficiency under visible light irradiation compared to bulk g-C3N4. Further investigation using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy revealed that shallow trap states induced by N defects can capture photogenerated electrons, inhibiting deep trapping and direct recombination of photogenerated charges. These findings provide new insights for manipulating trap state depth and photocatalytic processes through N defects, leading to high photocatalytic performance.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a promising photocatalyst for organic pollutant treatment. This study successfully enhanced the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 through chemical multi-modification. The S, K-doped/alkalized g-C3N4 product efficiently generates singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) and selectively oxidizes bisphenol A (BPA) for degradation.

Tailoring of electronic and surface structures boosts exciton-triggering photocatalysis for singlet oxygen generation

Dongpeng Zhang et al.

Summary: Surface substitutional doping with Pt has significant effects on the electronic and surface characteristics of atomically thin layers of Bi3O4Br, enhancing the generation of O-1(2). The introduced Pt impurity states can trap photoinduced singlet excitons, reducing the singlet-triplet energy gap and facilitating the generation of triplet excitons. Chemisorption state of O-2 causes changes in the magnetic moment of O-2 through electron-mediated triplet energy transfer, resulting in specific O-1(2) generation.
