Control of Staphylococcus aureus methicillin resistant isolated from auricular infections using aqueous and methanolic extracts of Ephedra alata

Amal Dbeibia et al.

Summary: The potential use of Ephedra alata extracts as a biological control agent against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated. The extracts exhibited antioxidant and antibacterial activities, inhibited biofilm formation, and showed no cytotoxic effects on cells. These findings suggest that Ephedra alata extracts may serve as a novel source of bioactive molecules for the treatment of infectious diseases associated with methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Phytochemical Profiling of Ephedra alata subsp. alenda Seeds by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Electrospray Ionization-Quadrupole-Time-of-Flight-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS), Molecular Docking, and Antioxidant, Anti-diabetic, and Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition

Afoua Mufti et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the phyto-chemical profile of Ephedra alata subsp. alenda seeds extract for the first time. The extract was found to contain bioactive components and exhibited antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities. The in silico analysis further confirmed the benefits of the extract's phytochemicals. Therefore, the seeds extract of E. alata can serve as a potential source of bioactive compounds and be recommended as enzyme inhibitory agents in food and pharmaceuticals.

Summary: The various parts (leaves, stems, roots) of knotgrass and sea knotgrass differ significantly in mineral composition, phytochemical contents, and antioxidant properties. Sea knotgrass leaves are rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, while the roots accumulate the highest iron. The extracts of sea knotgrass contain more phytochemical contents and antioxidants compared to knotgrass.
