A rich catalog of C-C bonded species formed in CO2 reduction on a plasmonic photocatalyst

Dinumol Devasia et al.

Summary: In situ vibrational spectroscopy provides a powerful tool for probing elementary chemical processes on catalytic surfaces. Surface enhanced Raman scattering is used to identify multi-carbon species formed on a Ag nanoparticle catalyst during plasmon-driven reduction of CO2 in water. High spatiotemporal resolution and surface sensitivity allow for the detection of a rich array of C-1-C-4 species on the photoexcited Ag surface, which informs the modeling and engineering of catalysts.
