A biomimetic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BELISA) for the analysis of gonadorelin by using molecularly imprinted polymer-coated microplates

Francesca Torrini et al.

Summary: An original biomimetic enzyme-linked immunoassay (BELISA) has been developed for quantification of gonadorelin, a peptide hormone recently banned in sports. The assay involves the growth of a polynorepinephrine (PNE)-based molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on microwells. It utilizes a colorimetric indirect competitive bioassay and achieves a detection limit of 277 pmol L-1 with good reproducibility. The selectivity of the assay is suitable for biological specimens and non-specific control peptides, and the analytical figures of merit are validated by mass spectrometry.

A quantitative enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) to approximate complement-fixing antibody titers in serum from patients with coccidioidomycosis

Tao Peng et al.

Summary: Coccidioidomycosis is commonly diagnosed serologically, with a new ELISA method developed in this study showing potential to improve antibody detection accuracy and sensitivity. Anchoring the antigenic peptide to the ELISA plate was found to enhance antibody detection sensitivity, and the newly developed ELISA demonstrated significant quantitative correlation with complement-fixing antibody titers.

Aya M. Mostafa et al.

Summary: Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are artificial polymers with complementary cavities designed for specific target molecule binding, widely used in medicine, chemistry, analysis, and sensing fields. They are particularly important for identifying biomarkers and enabling easy and rapid extraction and detection of these molecules. Various synthesis techniques for MIPs have advantages and disadvantages, and their applications are diverse, especially in the analysis of protein biomarkers.

Summary: An electrochemical sensor using a MIP was developed for sensitive and selective detection of CFX, with P-Cys electropolymerization on MWCNT-modified GCE. Various experimental parameters were optimized, leading to linear relationship between peak potential and CFX concentration, with a LOD of 1x10(-10) molL(-1) using DPV. Real sample testing showed good recovery results.

Summary: The study re-examined MIPs based on PDA, focusing on the effect of template removal on non-specific adsorption. Results indicated that the high difference between MIPs and NIPs based on PDA is not due to imprinted cavities but to the removal step applied to MIPs.

Evaluation of Plasmatic Procalcitonin in Healthy, and in Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) Negative or Positive Colic Horses

Irene Nocera et al.

Summary: Procalcitonin (PCT) levels increase in horses with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), especially in cases of bacterial infection. This study evaluated PCT and SIRS score in colic horses over time, and found statistically significant differences between healthy and colic horses, as well as between healthy and SIRS-positive or negative horses. While there was no correlation between SIRS score and PCT, the results suggest that PCT could be a valuable biomarker for colic.
