Hypergraph regularized semi-supervised support vector machine

Yuting Sun et al.

Summary: In this paper, a hypergraph regularized semi-supervised support vector machine (HGSVM) algorithm is proposed to exploit the multivariate manifold structure. To accelerate the training process of HGSVM, a fast algorithm based boundary sample selection algorithm, termed fast-HGSVM, is developed. Moreover, two SMOTE-variant techniques and the one-vs-rest strategy are introduced in fast-HGSVM, and two multi-category semi-supervised algorithms called fast-ASHGSVM and fast-KSHGSVM are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is validated through experiments on two moons and UCI datasets.

An integrated multidisciplinary-based framework for characterizing environmental risks of heavy metals and their effects on antibiotic resistomes in agricultural soils

Yuxin Zhang et al.

Summary: A new integrated multidisciplinary-based framework was proposed to better understand the environmental risks of heavy metals in agricultural soils. Agricultural and industrial activities were identified as the main sources of heavy metals in the environment. The geochemical enrichment of heavy metals was found to have significant effects on the antibiotic resistomes in the environment.

Leaching of rare earth elements from phosphogypsum

Sabrina F. Lutke et al.

Summary: This study investigates the leaching conditions and mechanisms of rare earth elements (REE) from phosphogypsum (PG). Through experimental design and optimization, high leaching efficiency values were obtained using sulfuric acid at a concentration of 2.9 mol L-1, a solid/liquid ratio of 1.7/20 g mL(-1), and a temperature of 55 C. The leaching kinetics results indicated that most REE reached equilibrium in about 20 minutes, and the mechanism investigation suggested that surface chemical reaction and diffusion through the boundary layer controlled the leaching process.

Phytoremediation of Arsenic-Contaminated Soils Amended with Red Mud Combined with Phosphogypsum

Enio Tarso de Souza Costa et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of red mud and a mixture of red mud with phosphogypsum (RMPG) as amendments to reduce arsenic availability in contaminated soils. The amendments increased pH, EC, and sodium concentration in soils, while decreasing arsenic concentration in leachates and plant tissues. RMPG was found to be particularly advantageous, providing both arsenic reduction and additional nutrients for plant growth.
