Optimized Synthesis of Solution-Processable Crystalline Poly(Triazine Imide) with Minimized Defects for OLED Application

David Burmeister et al.

Summary: Poly(triazine imide) (PTI) is a highly crystalline semiconductor with potential for thin layer device applications. Protonation of PTI structure at pyridinic N atoms of the triazine rings can lead to exfoliation of layers and improvement in quantum yield and exciton lifetimes. Avoiding the detrimental C-C carbon-rich phase from conventional synthesis methods can enhance the optical and electronic performance of PTI.

Mitochondria targeted fluorogenic theranostic agents for cancer therapy

Hardev Singh et al.

Summary: Mitochondria, as the most critical target in cell physiology, have attracted substantial attention in cancer therapy due to their structural and functional discrepancies between normal and cancerous cells. Various synthetic strategies are used to deliver cytotoxins exclusively to mitochondria, achieving significant mitochondrial accumulations by proper selection of cell types and targeting unit. This review article addresses different strategies for targeting cancerous mitochondria with small molecule-based theranostics for diagnostic and potential therapeutic purposes since 2015.

Circularly Polarized Luminescence Liquids Based on Siloxybinaphthyls: Best Binaphthyl Dihedral Angle in the Excited State

Kazuto Takaishi et al.

Summary: A series of axially chiral 1,1'-binaphthyls with trialkylsiloxy (OSiR3) groups have been synthesized, with some showing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) in liquid state at room temperature. Time-dependent DFT calculations revealed a transoid conformation in the excited state is essential for the CPL activity, with a dihedral angle of approximately 110 degrees.

A Polarity-Sensitive Ratiometric Fluorescence Probe for Monitoring Changes in Lipid Droplets and Nucleus during Ferroptosis

Kang-Nan Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces the first LD/nucleus dual-targeted ratiometric fluorescent probe, CQPP, to monitor polarity changes in the cellular microenvironment. Through the application of CQPP, it was found that LD polarity increased in the ferroptosis model, while the polarity between LDs and cytoplasm homogenized.

DNA-Based Dynamic Mimicry of Membrane Proteins for Programming Adaptive Cellular Interactions

Jin Li et al.

Summary: A cell-surface nanoarchitecture was engineered to mimic the dynamic behavior of membrane proteins, allowing cells to respond to environmental changes. Activation by cell-responsive signals enables the assembly of multiple functional modules on the membrane for cell-type-specific binding and killing, offering a new paradigm for engineering therapeutic cells.

Accurate Monitoring and Multiple Evaluations of Mitophagy by a Versatile Two-Photon Fluorescent Probe

Xinru Wang et al.

Summary: Mitophagy is crucial in maintaining cellular functions, and in this research, a multifunctional two-photon fluorescent probe Mito-PV was developed for tracking changes in polarity, viscosity, and morphology of mitochondria. The probe successfully enabled real-time and accurate monitoring of mitophagy, showing potential as a tool for evaluating mitophagy-related processes and drug effects.

Alkyl vs. aryl modifications: a comparative study on modular modifications of triphenylphosphonium mitochondrial vectors

How Chee Ong et al.

Summary: TPP+ moieties are commonly conjugated to drug molecules for mitochondrial selectivity, with optimization of lipophilicity achieved by modifying alkyl linkers or methylation of TPP+ moieties. This study systematically compared the two modular approaches by designing, synthesizing and testing a range of TPP+ molecules with varying structures. Confocal imaging and molecular dynamics simulations were used to evaluate the delivery of cargo to mitochondria and understand the translocation of these molecules through biological membrane model systems, providing insights into the thermodynamics of the process and the effect of alkyl and aryl modular modifications.
