Single nucleotide polymorphism of fatty acid desaturase gene and breast cancer risk in estrogen receptor subtype

A. Preethika et al.

Summary: In this study, an association between a genetic variant rs174537 of the fatty acid desaturase gene 1(FADS1) and breast cancer estrogen receptor subtype was explored. The results indicated that high levels of ALA were associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. Additionally, individuals with a genetically determined lower activity of FADS1 (minor allele T) may derive greater benefits from n-3 fatty acids and have a reduced risk of breast cancer.

In situ detection of fatty acid C=C positional isomers by coupling on-tissue mCPBA epoxidation with infrared matrix-assisted laser desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

Anqi Tu et al.

Summary: The use of mCPBA for on-tissue epoxidation in MS imaging allows for rapid and simple identification and relative quantification of double-bond positional isomers, with high efficiency and sensitivity. Tandem MS analysis of the epoxidized products generated informative fragment ions specific to the double-bond positions, enabling relative quantification of positional isomers in binary mixtures across a wide mole fraction range. The innovative spiral scan pattern during data acquisition provides insights into the major isomeric compositions of multiple UFAs from a tissue section in a single run.

Fatty Acid Synthesis in Prostate Cancer: Vulnerability or Epiphenomenon?

Laura A. Sena et al.

Summary: The review summarizes the evidence that fatty acid synthesis drives progression of prostate cancer, although the mechanisms behind this beneficial effect still remain unclear. It emphasizes the functional importance of activating the fatty acid synthesis pathway in promoting prostate cancer aggressiveness.
