Enabling Microscale Processing: Combined Raman and Absorbance Spectroscopy for Microfluidic On-Line Monitoring

Gilbert L. Nelson et al.

Summary: Microfluidics offer numerous potential applications, including characterization of chemical processes, reaction kinetics studies, sample pretreatment, and portable spectroscopic analyses. In situ characterization of process streams from laboratory-scale and microscale experiments on the same chemical system provides comprehensive understanding of process conditions at different scales. Micro-Raman and micro-UV-vis spectroscopy can determine fundamental parameters with significantly reduced sample size, leading to time, cost, and waste reductions compared to traditional approaches.

Raman Spectroscopy Coupled with Chemometric Analysis for Speciation and Quantitative Analysis of Aqueous Phosphoric Acid Systems

Andrew J. Clifford et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the successful application of Raman spectroscopy combined with chemometric modeling and locally weighted regression modeling to measure the concentration of phosphate species in complex solutions. By directly measuring the concentration of each phosphate species from Raman signals, this approach provides an effective method for monitoring complex chemical systems online in real-time.
