Multiplex optical bioassays for food safety analysis: Toward on-site detection

Tian Guan et al.

Summary: Food safety analysis is important for controlling contamination, and multiplex optical bioassays (MOBAs) have been widely used for their efficiency and low cost. However, the traditional MOBAs face challenges in terms of capacity, sensitivity, and instrumentation. This review summarizes effective strategies for food safety MOBAs, explores new trends in sensor architecture and signal reporters, and discusses the potential of integrating MOBAs into smartphones. Future MOBAs should be more sensitive, have higher capacity, and be easier to use.
