The conceptual framework for a combined food literacy and physical activity intervention to optimize metabolic health among women of reproductive age in urban Uganda

Peter Yiga et al.

Summary: The metabolic health of urban Ugandans, especially women, is suboptimal. Science-based interventions are urgently needed to address unhealthy dietary and physical activity behaviors. This study aims to develop a food literacy and physical activity promotion intervention to improve the metabolic health of women of reproductive age in urban Uganda. The Intervention Mapping protocol was used to design the intervention, including the identification of determinants and the formulation of behavioral objectives. The intervention consists of five interactive group sessions, focusing on nutrition and physical activity information, personalized goals and action plans, and practical tips. The effectiveness of the intervention is being evaluated through a randomized controlled trial.

Is a small change approach for weight management effective? A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Henrietta Emily Graham et al.

Summary: The small change approach is more effective than traditional methods for weight management, particularly in preventing weight gain but not for weight loss. Further high-quality trials with longer follow-up are needed to validate its long-term effectiveness.

Daily Step Count and All-Cause Mortality: A Dose-Response Meta-analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Ahmad Jayedi et al.

Summary: The study found a linear inverse association between step count and all-cause mortality risk, especially within the range of 2700 to 17,000 steps per day. The risk decreased significantly as the number of steps per day increased, with estimates suggesting a strong dose-response relationship.

It's only fatness, it doesn't kill: a qualitative study on perceptions of weight gain from use of dolutegravir-based regimens in women living with HIV in Uganda

Yussif Alhassan et al.

Summary: In Uganda, women have varied perceptions of weight gain caused by Dolutegravir (DTG), which may not necessarily affect medication adherence. However, the limited knowledge and clinical guidance among healthcare professionals restrict the management and surveillance of DTG-related weight gain.

Determinants of dietary and physical activity behaviours among women of reproductive age in urban Uganda, a qualitative study

Peter Yiga et al.

Summary: The study investigated determinants of dietary and physical activity behaviours among women of reproductive age in Kampala, Uganda. Factors influencing obesogenic behaviours of adolescent girls and women in low- and middle-income countries: A qualitative evidence synthesis

Ursula Trubswasser et al.

Summary: This systematic review synthesized qualitative evidence on factors influencing obesogenic behaviors in adolescent girls and women of reproductive age in LMICs. The review identified gender norms, dietary habits, food promotion, busy lifestyles, and limited exercise spaces as key factors affecting obesogenic behaviors. Addressing these factors at individual, social, physical, and environmental levels is essential for addressing obesity in LMICs.
