Parapsoriasis-A Diagnosis with an Identity Crisis: A Narrative Review

Manasmon Chairatchaneeboon et al.

Summary: Parapsoriasis is a rare inflammatory skin disease that may be resistant to therapy and is difficult to distinguish from mycosis fungoides. There is a lack of studies and clinical guidelines for this condition.

Treatment of early-stage mycosis fungoides: results from the PROspective Cutaneous Lymphoma International Prognostic Index (PROCLIPI) study

P. Quaglino et al.

Summary: The PROCLIPI study analyzed front-line treatments and quality of life in newly diagnosed MF patients. Results showed that SDT was the most common first-line therapy, and systemic therapy was associated with more advanced disease characteristics. Response rates and QoL measures were higher in SDT compared to systemic therapy, highlighting the importance of disease characteristics in treatment decisions.

Reflectance confocal microscopy role in mycosis fungoides follow-up

Bruna Melhoranse Gouveia et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the agreement level between reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and histopathology in monitoring patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) and developed an RCM checklist to predict disease severity. Results showed that RCM can assess lesion activity and assist in the clinical management of MF patients.

Utility of flow cytometry and gene rearrangement analysis in tissue and blood of patients with suspected cutaneous T-cell lymphoma

Julie D. Gibbs et al.

Summary: Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is challenging to diagnose early, with diagnostic tools including clinical examination, histomorphologic analysis, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and gene rearrangement analysis. A study compared the performance of different diagnostic modalities, with high-throughput sequencing (HTS) showing high specificity in identifying CTCL. Further research is needed to find more sensitive tests for early-stage CTCL.

Identification of Skin Lesions by Using Single-Step Multiframe Detector

Yu-Ping Hsiao et al.

Summary: An artificial intelligence algorithm, SSD, was used to detect mycosis fungoides, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis. The SSD model analyzed 292 test images in 10 seconds, detecting 273 images accurately. The sensitivity of MF was the highest, while AD diagnosis was relatively poor.

Mycosis fungoides-derived exosomes promote cell motility and are enriched with microRNA-155 and microRNA-1246, and their plasma-cell-free expression may serve as a potential biomarker for disease burden

L. Moyal et al.

Summary: This study found that MF-derived exosomes are enriched with miR-155 and miR-1246 microRNAs, with miR-155 having a migratory effect on target cells. Plasma levels of cfmiR-1246 were significantly highest in plaque/tumour MF, followed by patch MF, while cfmiR-155 was only upregulated in plaque/tumour MF. Exosomes from MF, but not controls, increased cell migration, suggesting their potential as biomarkers for tumour burden.

Diagnosis of Early Mycosis Fungoides

Tomomitsu Miyagaki

Summary: Mycosis fungoides is the most common type of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, typically presenting with erythematous patches and plaques in early stages. It can be difficult to differentiate from benign inflammatory disorders such as atopic dermatitis. Accurate diagnosis is crucial to prevent unfavorable outcomes from inappropriate treatment.

An expert consensus report on mycosis fungoides in Italy: epidemiological impact and diagnostic-therapeutic pathway

Silvia Alberti Violetti et al.

Summary: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is a rare neoplasm and there is uncertainty regarding its epidemiology and diagnostic and therapeutic pathways in Italy. Dermatologists play a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of MF. Establishing regional registries for monitoring disease status and enhancing physician training are essential.
