Characterizing Physical Properties of Streambed Interface Sediments Using In Situ Complex Electrical Conductivity Measurements

Chen Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a noninvasive method using complex electrical conductivity to characterize streambed sediment physical properties, demonstrating the sensitivity of imaginary conductivity to sediment surface area and validating the relationships through laboratory and field measurements. Results show that the inverted sediment imaginary conductivity is less impacted by uncertainty in water layer depth and conductivity compared to real conductivity, providing a more accurate assessment of sediment properties.

Individual and joint inversion of head and flux data by geostatistical hydraulic tomography

Behzad Pouladi et al.

Summary: Hydraulic tomography is an advanced method for inferring hydraulic conductivity fields using head data, with flux data providing better resolution in similar signal-to-noise ratios. The quality of estimated fields is similar when considering a high number of observation points, and joint inversion does not offer advantages over individual inversions with the same number of observations. Joint inversion performs better than individual inversions when considering twice as many observation points.

The Application of Electromagnetic Induction Methods to Reveal the Hydrogeological Structure of a Riparian Wetland

Paul McLachlan et al.

Summary: The study utilized EMI methods to measure the electrical conductivities of a riparian wetland and evaluated methods to obtain structural information from EMI data and inverted models. It was found that EMI data were mainly influenced by the thickness of peaty alluvial soils. Through the use of multi-linear regression methods, improved accuracy in predicting the thickness of alluvial soils was achieved.
