An ICLS-based method for solving two-phase seepage free surface considering compressible gas in porous media

Lanhao Zhao et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel approach based on the improved conservation level set (ICLS) method is proposed to represent accurate free surface, especially considering the compressibility of gas in two-phase seepage. By updating the air density and implicitly capturing the free surface, this method achieves better mass conservation property and more precise surface information in seepage simulations.

Charts for free surfaces in steady-state seepage flow through homogeneous isotropic rectangular dams

Fang Xue Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method to determine the free-surface profiles in steady-state seepage flow through a rectangular dam using analytical and computational approaches. The results are organized in charts for ease of use and are validated with existing literature. The study also provides insights into the abrupt changes in the angle of the free surface, offering an explanation for the paradox observed between theoretical expectations and graphical observations.

A general SPH framework for transient seepage flows through unsaturated porous media considering anisotropic diffusion

Yanjian Lian et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a general SPH formulation capable of addressing anisotropic diffusion, demonstrating higher accuracy on disordered particle systems. This newly developed SPH formulation is then used for the first time to solve transient seepage flows, allowing for a complete transition between unsaturated and saturated states, and establishing a general framework for solving such problems in porous media.
