All-Carbon Tetrasubstituted Olefins Synthesis from Diazo Compounds and Iodonium Ylides under Blue LED Irradiation

Yan-Rui Zhao et al.

Summary: A new method for the construction of all-carbon tetra-substituted olefins using visible-light promoted coupling of diazo compounds with iodonium ylides has been developed, resulting in a wide range of products in moderate to good yields. The synthetic value of this method was demonstrated through the synthesis of natural isolates modified alkenes and the successful transformation of final olefins into important heterocycles.

Ligand Modification of Au25 Nanoclusters for Near-Infrared Photocatalytic Oxidative Functionalization

Shuxin Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis and structural determination of an arylthiolated Au-25(F-Ph)(18)(-) nanocluster and explores the roles of its ligands in photocatalyzed oxidative functionalization reactions. The key findings highlight the interactions between ligands to maintain the geometric structure and prevent oxidization, as well as the ability of the synthetic clusters to undergo three types of photocatalytic oxidative functionalization reactions.

Cobalt(II)-tetraphenylporphyrin-catalysed carbene transfer from acceptor-acceptor iodonium ylides via N-enolate-carbene radicals

Roel F. J. Epping et al.

Summary: Square-planar cobalt(II) systems play a significant role in the synthesis of (hetero) cyclic compounds through the formation of cobalt(III)-carbene radical intermediates. This study reveals the formation of disubstituted cobalt(III)-carbene radicals and their catalytic application using cobalt(II)-tetraphenylporphyrin complex and iodonium ylides as carbene precursors. The findings highlight the importance of N-enolate formation in the reversible transfer of two carbene moieties.

Dark and Light Reactions of Carbenes-Merging Carbene Transfer Reactions with N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis for the Synthesis of Hydroxamic Acid Esters

Bao-Gui Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, we reported the visible light and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) jointly promoted multicomponent carbene transfer reactions. Two kinds of important hydroxamic acid esters were obtained in good yields under optimized reaction conditions depending on the reaction media used. The utility and practicality of this method were demonstrated through mild reaction conditions, excellent functional group tolerance, useful synthetic transformations, and successful modification of natural products and drug molecules.

Progress in organocatalysis with hypervalent iodine catalysts

Fateh Singh et al.

Summary: Hypervalent iodine compounds, as environmentally friendly and relatively inexpensive reagents with properties similar to transition metals, are used as alternatives to transition metal catalysts in organic synthesis. They exhibit mild, nontoxic, selective, and recyclable catalytic properties, facilitating the formation of various organic bonds. This review highlights recent developments in the utilization of iodine(iii) and iodine(v) catalysts in the synthesis of a wide range of organic compounds, including chiral catalysts for stereoselective synthesis, and describes polymer-, magnetic nanoparticle-, and metal organic framework-supported hypervalent iodine catalysts.

Divergent Synthesis of Aziridine and Imidazolidine Frameworks under Blue LED Irradiation

Xiao Cheng et al.

Summary: The study developed a visible light-promoted divergent cycloaddition of alpha-diazo esters with hexahydro-1,3,5-triazines, leading to a series of aziridine and imidazolidine frameworks with good yields by changing the reaction media. The reaction occurred solely under visible light irradiation without exogenous photoredox catalysts, and a reasonable reaction mechanism was proposed based on control experiments and density functional theory calculations.

Visible Light-Promoted Amide Bond Formation via One-Pot Nitrone in Situ Formation/Rearrangement Cascade

Bao-Gui Cai et al.

Summary: A green and sustainable synthetic strategy for amide bond formation using visible light as the sole energy source was developed, with nitrones generated in situ and nitrogen gas produced as the only byproduct. This method has potential applications in the synthesis of amides containing important natural products and drug-based complex molecules.

Oxime Ether Synthesis through O-H Functionalization of Oximes with Diazo Esters under Blue LED Irradiation

Qian Li et al.

Summary: A green and sustainable oxime ether formation method using visible light to promote the O-H functionalization of oximes with diazo esters is efficient and versatile, with high yields and tolerance to various functional groups. When a cyclic ether solvent is used, such as THF, 1,4-dioxane, and tetrahydropyran, an interesting photochemical three-component reaction product can be obtained in good yields.

Shinji Tanaka et al.

Summary: The asymmetric dehydrative intramolecular allylation reactions of furan and thiophene were successfully performed using a chiral pyridine carboxylic acid cationic cyclopentadienyl-ruthenium complex, resulting in high yields and enantioselectivities of the bicyclic compounds. The reaction proceeded via a specific mechanism involving halogen and hydrogen bond formation, as well as the generation of an intermediate sigma-allyl complex.

Augustin Manel et al.

Summary: The highly electrophilic fluorosulfoxonium cation [Ph2S(O)F](+)[B(C6F5)(4)](-) has been shown to catalyze (n + 2) annulation on donor-acceptor strained cycles, revealing new reactions it can promote. This study also demonstrates the fine line between Lewis acid catalysis and Brønsted acid catalysis.
