Wireless and battery-free technologies for neuroengineering

Sang Min Won et al.

Summary: This Review Article discusses recent progress in the development of miniaturized and ultralightweight devices for neuroengineering, which are wireless, battery-free, and fully implantable. These devices can restrict natural motions and prevent social interactions in animal models, limiting their utility in behavioural neuroscience research. However, advanced neural interfaces with optical, electrical, or fluidic functionality have emerged, capable of combining recording and stimulation modalities for closed-loop applications in basic studies or the treatment of abnormal physiological processes.

A biodegradable chipless sensor for wireless subsoil health monitoring

Sarath Gopalakrishnan et al.

Summary: Precision Agriculture (PA) is a revolutionary approach to agriculture that aims to increase food productivity while minimizing resource waste. However, current devices used in PA are expensive and non-biodegradable. To overcome this challenge, researchers have developed a fully degradable intelligent wireless sensor that can remotely monitor subsoil water using drones. The sensor has a simple structure and can be manufactured using cost-effective, biodegradable materials. Laboratory and field tests have demonstrated the sensor's ability to accurately detect water content in the soil. The sensor remains stable for at least a year, with minimal degradation.

Relationship between economic growth and mismanaged e-waste: Panel data evidence from 27 EU countries analyzed under the Kuznets curve hypothesis

Bilal Boubellouta et al.

Summary: This study found an inverted U-shaped relationship between economic growth and mismanaged e-waste, as postulated by the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis. There is a unidirectional causality relationship running from economic growth to uncollected and non-recycled/non-reused e-waste. Additionally, mismanaged e-waste increases with higher credit to the private sector.
