Breaking the Efficiency Limit of Deep-Blue Fluorescent OLEDs Based on Anthracene Derivatives

Hyoungcheol Lim et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the realization of a radiative singlet-exciton ratio of nearly 25% through triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) using an anthracene derivative, breaking the theoretical maximum limit for blue-emitting compounds. The developed deep-blue TTA fluorescent devices exhibit external quantum efficiencies of 10.2% and 8.6%, with the radiative singlet ratio generated from TTA reaching 37.5%, well above the previously known limit of 15%. The theoretical model provided in the study explains the experimental results comprehensively, indicating the potential development of highly efficient OLEDs with external quantum efficiencies exceeding 28% by maximizing outcoupling efficiency.

Improved Thermal Stability and Operational Lifetime of Blue Fluorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes by Using a Mixed-Electron Transporting Layer

Min Seok Ki et al.

Summary: The thermal stability and operational lifetime of blue-fluorescent OLEDs have been significantly improved by using a mixed electron transporting layer (mETL) of 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BPhen) and hydroxyquinolinolato-lithium (Liq). The introduction of Liq in the mETL enhances the thermal and morphological stabilities, leading to better device performance. The device with mETL containing 50% Liq shows a 60 degrees C increase in thermal stability and a 67 times longer operational lifetime compared to the reference device using pristine BPhen film as an ETL.

Novel deep-blue hot exciton material for high-efficiency nondoped organic light-emitting diodes

Pei Xu et al.

Summary: The reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process is an efficient way to utilize excitons in organic electroluminescent devices. A novel deep-blue emitter, MACN, was designed and synthesized, and its energy levels were found to enable RISC. This RISC process was then utilized in a non-doped deep blue-emission OLED, achieving high external quantum efficiency.

Pure-Blue Fluorescence Molecule for Nondoped Electroluminescence with External Quantum Efficiency Approaching 13%

Xianhao Lv et al.

Summary: A novel hot-exciton material tBuP-CAPICN was reported for the application of pure-blue fluorescent OLEDs, exhibiting excellent electroluminescence performance with an emission peak at 452 nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of only 53 nm. The OLED also achieved a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 12.7% and exciton utilization efficiency (EUE) of 80%, ranking it among the best performers in nondoped pure-blue OLEDs. The results suggest the potential of tBuP-CAPICN in pure-blue OLEDs and offer a valuable approach for designing high-efficiency pure-blue materials.

Intramolecular-Locked High Efficiency Ultrapure Violet-Blue (CIE-y <0.046) Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitters Exhibiting Amplified Spontaneous Emission

Aziz Khan et al.

Summary: The rational manipulation of molecular frontier orbital distribution and singlet-triplet splitting is crucial for exploiting the luminescent properties of organic molecules. In this study, a new TADF skeleton is developed by inserting a diphenyl methylene intramolecular lock to adjust torsion angles and restrict intramolecular relaxation. Two rigid emitters show narrow FWHMs and emit in deep blue and violet-blue, with fast S-1-S-0 transition rates and low ASE thresholds.
