Effectively modulating thermal activated charge transport in organic semiconductors by precise potential barrier engineering

Yinan Huang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a strategy to modulate the temperature-dependent charge transport in organic semiconductors through adjusting the effective potential barrier height of the grain boundary. By controlling the grain size, the effective potential barrier height is optimized to enhance the thermo-stability of devices, while achieving high thermo-sensitivity in charge transport.

Analysis of External and Internal Disorder to Understand Band-Like Transport in n-Type Organic Semiconductors

Marc-Antoine Stoeckel et al.

Summary: Charge transport in organic semiconductors is highly sensitive to disorder, especially in n-type materials, due to internal dynamic disorder caused by thermal fluctuations and molecular vibrations. This disorder can lead to transient localization of charge carriers.

Revealing molecular conformation-induced stress at embedded interfaces of organic optoelectronic devices by sum frequency generation spectroscopy

Zhongwu Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals a previously unknown molecular conformation-induced stress at the organic embedded interface using SFG spectroscopy technique. This stress, greater than 10 kcal/mol per nm(2), can cause molecular disorder in the organic semiconductor layer and ultimately lead to instability of the organic transistor. The research not only discloses interface stress in organic devices but also connects the instability of organic devices with interface stress for the first time, providing an effective solution for improving device stability.

Site-specific chemical doping reveals electron atmospheres at the surfaces of organic semiconductor crystals

Tao He et al.

Summary: Chemical doping strategy for organic semiconductors targeting crystallographic step edges leads to significant improvement in electron transport properties, with a tenfold increase in electron mobility and a switch from thermally activated to band-like behaviour. This approach provides evidence for doping-induced space charge and suggests new site-specific doping strategies for organic semiconductors, deviating from traditional randomly distributed substitutional impurities. The presence of doping-induced electron atmospheres in organic systems is confirmed, aligning with expectations from conventional solid-state theory.
