An appraisal of interlinkages between macro-economic indicators of economic well-being and the sustainable development goals

David Cook et al.

Summary: This paper explores the limitations of economic growth as a measure of progress and the call for alternative measures of economic well-being in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals. It presents a conceptual model linking different capital assets to well-being goals and evaluates the alignment of various economic well-being indicators with SDG targets. The Genuine Progress Indicator is found to be the most comprehensive in coverage, directly linking to targets in fourteen of the seventeen SDGs.
