State-of-the-Art Review of Electrospun Gelatin-Based Nanofiber Dressings for Wound Healing Applications

Tao Li et al.

Summary: Electrospun nanofiber materials, particularly those based on gelatin, have shown promise as advanced dressings for wound healing and skin regeneration. They possess high porosity, excellent barrier performance against pathogens, and a mimicry of extracellular matrix fibrils. Various crosslinking approaches and innovative electrospinning strategies have been used to enhance their mechanical properties. Additionally, bioactive components and therapeutic agents can be incorporated to impart multiple functions to these nanofiber dressings. This review provides a comprehensive overview of gelatin-based nanofiber dressings and their applications in wound healing and skin regeneration.
