Particle release from dental implants immediately after placement - An ex vivo comparison of different implant systems

Fadi Barrak et al.

Summary: This study found that implants with wider body diameters released more metallic elements, with Ti-6Al-4V implants releasing significantly more compared to Ti-CP4 and Ti-15Zr. Ti-CP4 and Ti-15Zr appear to be more suitable materials, but further research is needed to elucidate the biological effects of these fine particles and/or metallic species.

Mixed material wear particle isolation from periprosthetic tissue surrounding total joint replacements

Summary: Submicron-sized wear particles are potential causes of aseptic loosening, and highly sensitive wear particle isolation methods can identify them but not all types of particles. By modifying established techniques, high- and low-density materials can be successfully isolated from periprosthetic tissue samples.

Bone Cysts and Osteolysis in Ankle Replacement

Summary: In patients undergoing total ankle replacement surgery, 78% were found to have bone cysts outside of the resection margins. 30% of these cysts were greater than 5 mm in size, and 60% were not visible on plain radiographs.
