Oxidative stress: The core pathogenesis and mechanism of Alzheimer's disease

Renren Bai et al.

Summary: As the number of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients increases, it poses great challenges to their families and society as a whole. While significant efforts have been made to understand the pathology of AD, the main pathogenesis remains elusive. Oxidative stress, as a crucial factor, plays a critical role in this disease by connecting different hypotheses and mechanisms.

Palladium Nanocrystals-Engineered Metal-Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Tumor Inhibition by Synergistic Hydrogen/Photodynamic Therapy

Jiajie Chen et al.

Summary: Hydrogen therapy and photodynamic therapy have shown promise in cancer treatment, with a novel combined therapy modality involving palladium nanocrystals-integrated nanoscale porphyrinic metal-organic framework designed for enhanced anticancer efficacy and minimal side effects. The nanosystems effectively release hydrogen and generate singlet oxygen without interference, disrupting the tumor microenvironment redox steady-state to induce tumor cell death synergistically. The coupling of tumor-selective hydrogen therapy and PDT results in an augmented therapeutic outcome, providing a safe and efficient tumor treatment for future clinical translation.

Efficient Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting Induced by the Giant Internal Electric Field of a g-C3N4/rGO/PDIP Z-Scheme Heterojunction

Xianjie Chen et al.

Summary: The research successfully constructed a graphitic carbon nitride/rGO/perylene diimide polymer (g-C3N4/rGO/PDIP) Z-scheme heterojunction, achieving high-efficiency and stable photocatalytic overall water splitting activity. By building a giant internal electric field in the Z-scheme junction, the charge separation efficiency was significantly improved, leading to higher hydrogen and oxygen evolution rates, quantum efficiency, and solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency.

CoP imbedded g-C3N4 heterojunctions for highly efficient photo, electro and photoelectrochemical water splitting

Yazi Liu et al.

Summary: Nanorod-like CoP nanoparticles were synthesized via gas-solid reaction from different precursors of Co(OH)(2) and Co3O4, then embedded into g-C3N4 nanosheets to form intimate heterojunctions. The resulting 0.5% CoP-CN exhibited superior activity in photocatalytic water splitting processes, with reduced over-potentials, more negative photo-reductive potentials, boosted interfacial charge transfer efficiency, and higher solar to hydrogen efficiency. The design of efficient CoP-based heterojunctions on covalent organic framework shows promise for direct water splitting applications utilizing solar energy.

Magnesium-Based Micromotors as Hydrogen Generators for Precise Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapy

Cong Xu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen therapy is a promising strategy for inflammation-related diseases, but its efficacy is limited due to nonpolarity and low solubility. A biocompatible magnesium micromotor coated with hyaluronic acid was developed as a hydrogen generator, showing great potential for rheumatoid arthritis therapy by producing hydrogen bubbles for motion and scavenging reactive oxygen species and inflammation. Through ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection, the micromotors effectively relieved oxidative stress, reduced inflammation cytokines, and ameliorated joint damage, showing prominent therapeutic efficacy.
