Observation of different transport behaviors in a two-dimensional MoTe2 field-effect transistor with engineered gate stack

Yafen Yang et al.

Summary: A high-performance back-gate MoTe2 FET fabricated on a novel Al2O3/ITO/SiO2/Si stack substrate with enhanced gate control over the MoTe2 channel has been reported in this study. Compared to conventional SiO2/Si substrate, the engineered gate stack exhibited higher on/off current ratio, smaller cut-off current, and smaller subthreshold slope.

Advancement in upconversion nanoparticles based NIR-driven photocatalysts

Anees A. Ansari et al.

Summary: The integration of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with semiconductors for NIR-driven photocatalytic systems is explored, focusing on synthesis methods and improving emission efficiency. Efforts to enhance light absorption capability through hetero-nanostructures and the development of efficient UCNPs-based NIR-light-responsive photocatalysts are crucial. Research also discusses the importance of developing heterostructures between UCNPs and low-energy bandgap materials for improved absorption under UV/visible/NIR sunlight.

Assembly of large hBN nanocrystal arrays for quantum light emission

Johann A. Preuss et al.

Summary: Rectangular arrays of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanoplatelet clusters are successfully fabricated through capillary assembly, achieving a positioning success rate of 74%. Thermal post-annealing increases the number of single-photon emitters (SPEs) by 50%. This work paves the way for the production of wafer-scale SPE arrays based on hBN nanocrystals for systematic statistical analysis and deterministic coupling of emitters on photonic chips.

Lanthanide doped luminescence nanothermometers in the biological windows: strategies and applications

Albenc Nexha et al.

Summary: The development of lanthanide-doped non-contact luminescent nanothermometers has led to their use as accurate, efficient and fast diagnostic tools, replacing conventional contact thermal probes, due to their versatility, stability and narrow emission band profiles. These nanothermometers utilize lanthanide-doped materials as temperature nanosensors, excited by UV, visible or NIR light, emitting in the I-BW, II-BW, III-BW and IV-BW regions, showing advantages such as reduced phototoxicity and photobleaching, improved image contrast and deeper tissue penetration. Factors affecting the thermal sensitivity and temperature resolution of lanthanide ion-doped nanomaterials in biomedical applications are summarized, along with strategies to boost their sensing properties in each biological window.
