Toward Epitaxial Growth of Misorientation-Free Graphene on Cu(111) Foils

Luzhao Sun et al.

Summary: This study found that trace amounts of oxygen enhance the interaction between graphene and Cu(111) substrate, eliminating misoriented graphene domains. Through a modified anomalous grain growth method and a self-designed pilot-scale CVD system, high-quality single-crystal graphene films were produced on Cu(111) foils in batch production. The findings and strategies provided in this work could accelerate the mass production of high-quality misorientation-free graphene films.

Nanoscale imaging of oxidized copper foil covered with chemical vapor deposition-grown graphene layers

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the natural oxidation of polycrystalline Cu substrate using nanoscale imaging techniques. The results revealed that the orientation of graphene layers and Cu substrates significantly influenced the oxidation of Cu, and the oxidation process of Cu was time-dependent. These findings have important implications for developing protective coatings for Cu.

Graphene transfer methods: A review

Sami Ullah et al.

Summary: Graphene, a material with unique properties, has wide applications in electronics, catalysis, energy, and bio-related fields. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a key method for growing high-quality graphene on non-technological substrates, with efforts towards efficient transfer of the material onto technologically relevant materials. Various graphene transfer techniques are reviewed in terms of contamination control, structural integrity preservation, scalability, cost, and time-effectiveness in this article. Discussions are made on transfer challenges, alternative options, and future developments in graphene technology.

Ultra-thin 2D transition metal monochalcogenide crystals by planarized reactions

Hao-Ting Chin et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method for producing large-scale, environmentally stable transition metal monochalcogenide (TMMC) 2D crystals through solid-state chemical reactions. The unique layer-by-layer growth mechanism allows for controlled thickness down to a single layer of TMMC crystals, expanding the morphological, compositional, and thermodynamic complexity of 2D materials.

The Wet-Oxidation of a Cu(111) Foil Coated by Single Crystal Graphene

Da Luo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the wet-oxidation of a single crystal Cu(111) foil by growing single crystal graphene islands on it and soaking it in water. It reveals that the oxygen atoms in the formed copper oxides in both the bare and graphene-coated Cu regions come from water. The research demonstrates that graphene completely prevents the oxidation of the underlying Cu when the surface is ultra-smooth and the graphene has no ripples or wrinkles.
