Identification of stomatal-regulating molecules from de novo arylamine collection through aromatic C-H amination

Yosuke Toda et al.

Summary: Stomata are small pores on plant leaves that control gas exchange with the atmosphere. Understanding the mechanism behind stomatal regulation is important for studying plant photosynthesis and drought tolerance. This study used a chemical genetic approach to identify synthetic molecules that influence stomatal movement and discovered a sulfonimidated oxazole derivative (SIM*) that inhibits stomatal opening. The discovery of SIM molecules may lead to the development of agrochemicals for drought tolerance by controlling stomatal movement.

A win-win scenario for photosynthesis and the plasma membrane H+ pump

Satoru N. Kinoshita et al.

Summary: Cytosolic and extracellular pH homeostasis is vital for various physiological processes in plants. The plasma membrane H+-ATPase plays a critical role in maintaining pH homeostasis and its activity is regulated by protein abundance and post-translational modifications. Phosphorylation of the penultimate threonine of the carboxy terminus can activate the plasma membrane H+-ATPase. This review summarizes recent findings on the regulation of plasma membrane H+-ATPase in photosynthetic tissues of plants, with a focus on its mechanisms and physiological roles.

The LRXs-RALFs-FER module controls plant growth and salt stress responses by modulating multiple plant hormones

Chunzhao Zhao et al.

Summary: The LRX3/4/5-RALF22/23-FER module regulates plant growth and salt stress responses by negatively controlling levels of JA, SA, and ABA, influencing cell wall integrity and stress-responsive gene expression. Increased ROS production contributes to salt hypersensitivity in lrx34S and fer-4 mutants, and inhibiting ROS accumulation can alleviate this hypersensitivity.

Development of a Commercial Manufacturing Route to 2-Fluoroadenine, The Key Unnatural Nucleobase of Islatravir

Cynthia M. Hong et al.

Summary: We report the practical synthesis of a key fragment of islatravir (MK-8591), a novel nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor (NRTTI) under investigation for HIV treatment and prevention. The synthesis involves a dual fluorination approach leading to a novel intermediate, ultimately resulting in the creation of MK-8591.

Overexpression of Plasma Membrane H+-ATPase in Guard Cells Enhances Light-Induced Stomatal Opening, Photosynthesis, and Plant Growth in Hybrid Aspen

Shigeo Toh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that overexpression of Arabidopsis plasma membrane H+-ATPase (AHA2) in guard cells of transgenic hybrid aspens enhances light-induced stomatal opening, photosynthesis, and growth. The results show that manipulating the expression of PM H+-ATPase in guard cells can positively impact the growth of perennial woody plants.

Protease Inhibitor-Dependent Inhibition of Light-Induced Stomatal Opening

Tenghua Wang et al.

Summary: The study identified 17 protease inhibitors that can inhibit light-induced stomatal opening, with the top three (PI1, PI2, PI3) acting by suppressing the activity of H+-ATPase. These inhibitors were predicted to target factors involved in the process of light-induced stomatal opening through bioinformatics analysis.
