Adsorptive removal of uremic toxins using Zr-based MOFs for potential hemodialysis membranes

Sen Zeng et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the adsorption performance of three zirconium metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) for protein-bound uremic toxins (PBUTs) and developed mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by incorporating the Zr-MOFs into a polylactide (PLA) matrix. The results showed that the MOFs-based MMMs exhibited excellent adsorption performance, high water flux, and good biocompatibility, suggesting their promising applications in blood purification.

Effects of microsize on the biocompatibility of UiO67 from protein-adsorption behavior, hemocompatibility, and histological toxicity

Na Gan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biocompatibility of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and found that the size of MOFs affects their binding capacity, protein conformational transformation, and cytotoxicity. However, the size of MOFs has little impact on hemocompatibility. These findings provide valuable experimental references for the toxicity evaluation and development of MOFs-based engineering materials.

Kang Kang et al.

Summary: In this study, three new cationic MOFs based on pyrimidyl ligands were synthesized for the removal of radioactive pertechnetate. These cationic MOFs exhibited strong anion exchange capability due to the multiple coordination sites of pyrimidyl groups, with one of the MOFs showing the highest removal efficiency and selectivity for ReO4-/TcO4- among the three.

Kang Kang et al.

Summary: A new water-stable cationic metal-organic framework ZJU-X8 was reported for efficient and selective detection of TcO4-, exhibiting a unique fluorescent recognition mechanism. Batch sorption experiments and DFT calculations demonstrated that only TcO4- could enter the framework through anion exchange, leading to a red-shift in the fluorescent spectra after interaction with silver ions.
