Preparation and characterization of room-temperature chemically expanded graphite: Application for cationic dye removal

Mahnaz Movafaghi Ardestani et al.

Summary: A facile and eco-friendly method was developed to prepare chemically expanded graphite (CEG) with a highly porous structure using natural flake graphite as raw material, potassium permanganate (KMnO4) as an oxidative intercalant, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a reactive species. The CEG exhibited interconnected structure and grafted oxygen-containing groups. The expansion and conversion of graphite layers into graphene sheets were confirmed by XRD analysis. The CEG showed promising potential for water purification.

Photoluminescence mechanisms of red-emissive carbon dots derived from non-conjugated molecules

Xin Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synthesis and emission mechanism of red-emissive carbon dots (R-CDs). Different R-CDs were successfully synthesized using non-aromatic precursors such as citric acid with the assistance of ammonia. The addition of ammonia played a key role in the synthesis process, shifting the emission wavelength of the carbon dots. Mass spectrometry analysis and computational modeling revealed the emission mechanism, providing guidance for the controlled synthesis of R-CDs from other non-aromatic precursors.

Solution Plasma-Synthesized Black TiO2 Nanoparticles for Solar-Thermal Water Evaporation

Shilei Zhu et al.

Summary: Black TiO2 nanoparticles (b-TiO2) with superior solar-thermal water evaporation performance were prepared using a one-step solution plasma process (SPP). Radicals generated during SPP played a critical role in b-TiO2 formation, with a two-step mechanism proposed for its synthesis. The understanding gained from this study may inspire strategies for more efficient solar energy harvesting in solar-thermal conversion applications.
