Advances in Studies of Boron Nitride Nanosheets and Nanocomposites for Thermal Transport and Related Applications

Mohammed J. Meziani et al.

Summary: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and exfoliated nanosheets (BNNs) share similarities with their carbon counterparts but offer unique properties such as electrical insulation and chemical stability. Recent advances focus on effective exfoliation techniques, understanding characteristic properties, and applications in polymeric nanocomposites for thermally conductive yet electrically insulating materials.

Thermally Conductive but Electrically Insulating Polybenzazole Nanofiber/Boron Nitride Nanosheets Nanocomposite Paper for Heat Dissipation of 5G Base Stations and Transformers

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: Dielectric polymer composites are highly promising for electrical and electronic applications due to their potential in providing both high thermal conductivity and electrical insulation. In this work, highly thermally conductive and electrically insulating poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) nanofiber composites were prepared by incorporating functionalized boron nitride nanosheets. The resulting nanocomposite paper exhibited excellent thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, electrical insulation properties, and fire retardance, making it suitable for high power density electrical equipment and electronic devices.

Bifunctional Liquid Metals Allow Electrical Insulating Phase Change Materials to Dual-Mode Thermal Manage the Li-Ion Batteries

Cong Guo et al.

Summary: This article presents a liquid metal modified phase change material that achieves dual-mode thermal management of Li-ion batteries through photothermal effect and passive thermal conduction. The PCM has high thermal conductivity and efficient battery heating capability, allowing it to heat the battery in cold environments and lower the working temperature at high charging/discharging rates. This innovation offers opportunities for reliable operation of Li-ion batteries with improved performance and reduced risk of thermal runaway.

Hybrid Polymer Membrane Functionalized PBO Fibers/Cyanate Esters Wave-Transparent Laminated Composites

Zheng Liu et al.

Summary: By combining modified fibers with reinforced resins, the interlaminar shear strength and flexural strength of the composite material are improved, while the dielectric constant and dielectric loss are reduced. The wave transmittance of the composite material is also improved. In addition, the modified treatment can increase the volume resistivity and breakdown strength of the composite material, and has a certain impact on the heat resistance of the material.
