Keggin-type polyoxometalates as Cu(ii) chelators in the context of Alzheimer's disease

Elena Atrian-Blasco et al.

Summary: Two Keggin polyoxometalates were tested as copper ligands to counteract the effects of Cu-II(Amyloid-beta) interaction. They demonstrated the ability to remove Cu-II from Cu-II(Amyloid-beta), inhibit Cu-II(Amyloid-beta)-induced reactive oxygen species formation, and restore the apo-like self-assembly of Cu-II(Amyloid-beta).

Combating amyloid-induced cellular toxicity and stiffness by designer peptidomimetics

Mouli Konar et al.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of investigating and addressing the adverse effects of A beta aggregation on neuronal cells, with a focus on the design and evaluation of peptidomimetics containing cyclic dipeptide units. The results suggest that the Akd(NMC) peptide with CDP units at specific positions shows promise in understanding and alleviating A beta aggregation-induced cellular toxicity and stiffness.

A TNF receptor 2 agonist ameliorates neuropathology and improves cognition in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model

Natalia Orti-Casan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of stimulating TNFR2 with a TNFR2 agonist (NewStar2) in an AD mouse model. The results demonstrated that activation of TNFR2 reduced amyloid beta deposition and expression of beta-secretase 1, increased microglial and astrocytic activation, promoted the uptake and degradation of A beta, and improved cognitive functions. These findings suggest that TNFR2 stimulation might be a potential treatment for AD.

Philipp Schmid et al.

Summary: Nanometric ions such as polyoxometalates and ionic boron clusters have been found to induce the self-assembly of organic solvents in water, significantly increasing their cloud point and aqueous solubility. At high concentrations, these ions can form complexes or colloids with the solvent, leading to the formation of different phases.
