Core-shell heterojunction engineering of Ni0.85Se-O/CN electrocatalyst for efficient OER

Cheng Zhang et al.

Summary: A Ni0.85Se-O/CN multicore core-shell coated structured microspherical electrocatalyst was prepared by hydrothermal method for promoting oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline solution. The electrocatalyst, with highly conductive Ni0.85Se-O core and g-C3N4 shell with abundant active sites, showed excellent OER performance with a Tafel slope of 82.5 mV dec(-1) and an overpotential of 240 mV @ 10 mA cm(-2). The catalyst also exhibited excellent long-term stability due to the protection of the core (Ni0.85Se-O) from corrosion and oxidation by the shell (g-C3N4). In addition, a mechanistic analysis on catalytic activity using density functional theory (DFT) was performed.

Hong-Lin Zhu et al.

Summary: The study successfully demonstrated the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 into value-added fuels by anchoring self-supported cobalt phthalocyanine on chrysanthemum-like ZnIn2S4 nanoarray electrode. Experimental and computational analyses revealed that the active site for CO2 reduction was attributed to Co sites, while for hydrogen evolution reaction, it was mainly ascribed to the S site on the surface of ZIS.
