Summary: In this article, a new ultrawideband branch waveguide coupler with low amplitude imbalance is presented. The novel design is based on a new structure of branch waveguide achieved by symmetrically increasing its width. The height and width of the new branch waveguide can independently control the coupling degree, resulting in increased design flexibility. Additionally, the structure can produce a transmission zero and a concept to improve the fractional bandwidth is proposed through out-of-band transmission zeros. Design guidelines for the novel coupler are provided based on the analysis, and a prototype is processed and measured to verify the design concept.
