Optimization of sulfobutyl-ether-β-cyclodextrin levels in oral formulations to enhance progesterone bioavailability

Vijay Kumar Shankar et al.

Summary: Progesterone oral dose regimens are used to treat luteal phase deficiency and estrogen dominance, but the poor solubility of progesterone can lead to erratic absorption. Developing a formulation to enhance solubility, such as SBE-β-CD complex, can improve bioavailability. Studies showed that optimized formulations with increased SBE-β-CD levels prevented precipitation of progesterone in the intestinal tract and increased oral bioavailability in rats.
