Influence of Body Composition on Post-Exercise Parasympathetic Reactivation of Firefighter Recruits

David J. Cornell et al.

Summary: This study found that there were no significant interactions between body composition and HRR response in firefighter recruits, but significant indirect semi-partial correlations were identified between body fat and Delta HRR30 and Delta HRR60. Therefore, reducing body fat should be prioritized in order to improve the post-exercise ANS recovery of firefighter recruits.

Skeletal Muscle Quality: A Biomarker for Assessing Physical Performance Capabilities in Young Populations

Marshall A. Naimo et al.

Summary: Muscle quality (MQ) is a novel index of functional capacity that is crucial for assessing the effectiveness of resistance exercise training in both healthy young adults and compromised adults. While MQ has received more attention in compromised adults, there is a lack of research on healthy young populations. Interventions like high-intensity stretch shortening contraction resistance exercise training can improve functional capacity and performance.
