Utilizing glass powder as partial replacement for Portland cement can improve the durability and strength performance of concrete, with optimal performance observed at replacement levels between 10% and 15%.
This critical review aims to investigate the effect of utilizing glass powder in concrete as partial replacement for Portland cement and serve in developing numerical equations to be used in further academic or engineering applications that link the percentage of replacement and the corresponding performance expected. 75 papers have been investigated covering cement replacement percentages from (5% up to 30%) with finely grained glass powder. Using glass powder with particle size < 75 mu m can exhibit pozzolanic characteristics inhibiting the ASR gel formation, improving the durability and strength performance. This review has shown that adequate overall performance of concrete occurs within the range of (10% to 15%) cement replacement levels with glass powder.
