Severity of hypertension as a predictor of initiation of dialysis among study participants with and without diabetes mellitus

Taeko Osawa et al.

Summary: Hypertension is significantly associated with the initiation of dialysis regardless of the presence of diabetes mellitus. Patients with diabetes mellitus may require more strict blood pressure interventions to avoid dialysis compared to those without diabetes and higher systolic blood pressure levels. Future studies are needed to determine the cut-off systolic blood pressure level to prevent initiation of dialysis.

Accuracy of Japanese claims data in identifying diabetes-related complications

Kazuya Fujihara et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of different claims-based definitions of diabetes-related complications (CAD, heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, and dialysis), showing that DPC-based definitions were more accurate for CAD and cerebrovascular disease, procedure codes were effective for CAD and dialysis, and a combination of DPC or ICD-10 codes with medication codes was needed for heart failure identification.

Associations of Systolic Blood Pressure and Diastolic Blood Pressure With the Incidence of Coronary Artery Disease or Cerebrovascular Disease According to Glucose Status

Mayuko Harada Yamada et al.

Summary: The study found that cardiovascular risks increased gradually with higher levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, regardless of glucose abnormality. Further interventional trials are needed to apply the findings from this cohort study to clinical practice.
